Specifically, Kirby almost never speaks and Kirby's Avalanche may just be the only game where he says anything besides his typical cute little nonsense noises. I'm very happy that Kirby's Avalanche is available for all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers as not only is it a great puzzle game, it also shows a side of Kirby that we don't normally see. It's challenging stuff that rewards your ability to plan ahead and if you want to watch me play it then check out my gameplay video: Nintendo Switch Online: Kirby's Avalanche gameplay video → If you manage to trigger a chain massive enough, it can bury your opponent in clear garbage blobs that may just be enough to top them out as you claim victory. For those unfamiliar with Puyo Puyo, you basically try to connect 4 of the same colour blob which pops them in the hopes that the blobs stacked on top will fall into place and create chains. It may not have a wide variety of modes or nifty mechanics that got introduced in later Puyo Puyo games but what's here is still undeniably special no matter if you're playing solo or against a friend. With its history out of the way, 1995's Kirby's Avalanche (also known as Kirby's Ghost Trap) is certainly an outstanding puzzle game. Western game companies sure loved reskinning puzzle games back in the day I mean, just look at Tetris Attack and Panel de Pon. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine which itself is a reskin of the original Puyo Puyo. It might also be familiar to Sonic the Hedgehog fans because it looks nearly identical to Dr. Well, that's because it's essentially a reskin of Super Puyo Puyo which debuted in Japan over a year prior.
